Practical information


Every foreign visitor must have a valid passport and visa to enter Russia. The Institute for Physics of Microstructures (IPM) of Russian Academy of Sciences will provide the visa support letter (in Russian) to be submitted to the Russian consulate in your country. To issue the official letter of invitation needed to obtain Russian visa a scan copy of the first pages of your passport(s) (with the passport number, photo and the date of expiry) is required. Also we need the following information:

Permanent residence (mailing address including postal code)
Phone number

Place of employment (full name, address)
Tel. / Fax

TRAVEL INFORMATION: dates of stay in Russia
Date of arrival in Russia (not earlier than)
Date of departure (not later than)

PLACE OF GETTING VISA (the city where the Russian consulate is situated, country)


MAILING ADDRESS (the address where the invitation letter will be delivered by express mail, name, and phone)

Please send this information together with a scan copy of the first pages of your passport(s) (with the passport number, photo and the date of expiry) to Vladimir Gavrilenko ( AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Please apply for humanitarian visa, not tourist.
Note that your passport must be valid for at least six months after the date of your departure from Russia.

You can arrive in Nizhny Novgorod from Moscow by plane or by train.


Planes from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod leave from Sheremetyevo airport (SVO) or Domodedovo airport (DME). Nizhny Novgorod is served by Strigino International Airport (GOJ). You can buy tickets from the aggregators of your choice or buy tickets directly:

The travel from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod by train takes 4-6 hours. The trains depart from Kursky and Yaroslavsky railway stations in Moscow.

!!! The participants are highly recommended to book tickets in advance !!!


For the transfer to Kursky and Yaroslavsky railway stations, you can use Moscow metro, which can be reached by Aeroexpress trains from SVO Airport to Belorussky railway station.

The trip from Belorussky railway station to Kursky or Yaroslavsky railway stations by metro takes less than 1 hour.


If you arrive at a different airport in Moscow or are going to travel from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod by train, you can order a taxi. Use the Uber, Gett and Yandex mobile applications, or find the official Yandex taxi desk in the arrivals hall of the terminal, ask for economy vehicle category, and you will get a reasonable, fixed price.

Transfer by taxi takes 1.5 — 2 hours when there are no traffic jams. With heavy traffic, it can take up to 3-4 hours.

Please, inform the Organizing Committee about the way and time of your arrival in Nizhny Novgorod. The Organizing Committee will consider the transportation of participants from the airport / train station by bus.
